Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-Door Fully Unveiled; Powertrain Specifications Leaked

The Mahindra Thar has garnered a devoted following akin to Marvel’s Hulk, celebrated for its off-road prowess but often criticized for its lack of practicality. Addressing these concerns, Mahindra is set to launch a new 5-door version of the SUV, the Mahindra Thar Roxx. This updated model promises enhanced practicality with the addition of rear doors and a proper rear bench, along with several other significant updates.

Design Updates

Recent images reveal that Mahindra has made substantial design changes to the Thar Roxx. The rear quarter glass is now triangular, accommodating a thicker B-pillar, which could potentially offer a more striking silhouette when the SUV is used without its top. However, the slanted roof design has sparked mixed reactions online. The alloy wheels have been redesigned, differing from the three-door model, and the round rear wheel arches have been replaced with squarer ones, giving the Roxx a new look.

Engine and Gearbox Options

The Thar Roxx is just days away from its official launch, and preliminary details from Autocar India reveal its engine and transmission options. The SUV will be available with two engine choices: a 2.0L turbo-petrol and a 2.2L turbo-diesel. The petrol engine will come in two versions, producing 160 hp and 170 hp, while the diesel engine will offer outputs of 132 hp and 171 hp. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Off-Road Capabilities

The Thar Roxx will feature an advanced suspension system, derived from the Scorpio-N, with FSD shock absorbers and a penta-link rear suspension setup. It will include an electronic brake-locking differential at the front and a mechanically locking rear differential. The SUV will also offer a low-ratio transfer case with a lever, similar to the existing three-door model. Additional off-road features include crawl control and Intelli Turn Assist. The Roxx boasts impressive off-road specifications, with a breakover angle of 23.6 degrees, an approach angle of 41.3 degrees, a departure angle of 36.1 degrees, and a water-wading depth of 650 mm.
