The highly competitive compact SUV segment is heating up even more with the launch of the Mahindra XUV 3XO. The homegrown automaker has introduced the XUV 3XO as its smallest SUV in the country and pitted it against Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Hyundai Venue. With the latest entrant, Mahindra is eyeing a sizeable share in this segment as it aims to emerge as one of the leading SUV makers in the country by 2027. Essentially a facelifted version of the XUV 300, the XUV 3XO is more premium than the former, thanks to the major upgrades and an array of new features it has received. Here is a comparison of the Mahindra XUV 3XO with its arch-rival, the Tata Nexon.

Mahindra XUV 3XO vs Tata Nexon: Specifications

The XUV 3XO is offered with two petrol and single diesel engine options. The 1.2-litre mStallion TCMPFi petrol engine belts out a maximum power of 110bhp and a peak torque of 200Nm, while the 1.2-litre mStallion TGDi unit generates 128 bhp of maximum power and 230 Nm of peak torque. Both engines are mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission. A 1.2-litre turbocharged CRDe diesel engine churns out 115bhp of max power and 300Nm of maximum torque and is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed AMT.

The Nexon too comes with both petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.2-litre petrol unit develops 118.2bhp maximum power and 170Nm of peak torque. The 1.5-litre diesel engine makes 113bhp of maximum power and 260Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a seven-speed DCT, a six-speed AMT, and a five-speed and a six-speed manual gearbox.

Dimensions

The Mahindra XUV 3XO is 3,990mm long, 1,821mm wide, and 1,647mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. The Tata Nexon, on the other hand, measures 3,995mm in length, 1,805mm in width, and 1,620mm in height.

The dimension figures clearly show that the XUV 3XO is slightly shorter than the Nexon. However, it is wider and taller than the latter. Moreover, the XUV 3XO is more spacious inside than the Nexon, thanks to its comparatively longer wheelbase.

Mahindra XUV 3XO vs Tata Nexon:Price

The prices of the new XUV 3XO range between Rs 7.49 lakh and Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The Tata Nexon, on the other hand, costs between Rs 8.15 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). Therefore, the base price of the Mahindra XUV 3XO is lower than that of the Nexon, but its top-end model is comparatively pricier.

Mahindra XUV 3XO vs Tata Nexon: Conclusion

Well, it's the ultimate battle of the two SUVs! To summarise, here are the key differences between the two:

  • The XUV 3XO has a more spacious cabin than the Nexon but the latter stands tall.
  • The XUV 3XO has a lower starting price.
  • In terms of output figures, the XUV 3XO's 1.2-liter mStallion TGDi engine generates more power compared to what Nexon's 1.2-liter petrol unit delivers.
  • Nexon offers a wide range of transmission options compared to the XUV 3XO.

In conclusion, choosing between the two SUVs should come down to your personal preferences and requirements. If you are a budget-conscious buyer, then XUV 3XO could be a better choice.
