Windsor

MG has just unveiled its third electric car for India, the Windsor EV. It’s based on the Wuling Cloud EV that's been popular in Southeast Asia. Measuring 4.29 metres long with a 2.7-metre wheelbase, the Windsor is a bit shorter than some rivals but offers a spacious interior thanks to its electric design.

Eye-Catching Design

The Windsor EV really stands out with its fresh look. At the front, it shares some design cues with the MG Comet, but with bigger LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and sleek full LED headlights. The car’s 18-inch chrome alloy wheels give it a high-end feel. MG’s AeroGlide design adds a modern touch with short overhangs and a floating roofline. Plus, it’s one of the few cars in its segment to have pop-out door handles, though it's unclear if they’ll be standard on all models.
The rear features connected taillights and the Windsor EV badge, but interestingly, it doesn’t have the usual "Internet Inside" branding.

Inside the Cabin: Comfort Meets Technology

Inside, the Windsor EV offers a blend of luxury and practicality. The standout feature is the 15.6-inch infotainment screen. It’s packed with features like wireless phone mirroring and climate controls, and also serves as the display for the 360-degree camera. In a cool twist, MG has teamed up with Jio to provide apps like JioTV and Jio games right in the car.
The rear seats are designed for maximum comfort, with the ability to recline up to 135 degrees—perfect for a business-class feel on the go. The flat floor and generous legroom add to the comfort, and there are handy features like USB ports, bottle holders, and cup holders.

Features Galore but No ADAS

The Windsor EV is packed with features including a 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, and connected car tech. However, it’s missing ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), which is available on other MG models like the Hector and ZS EV. It’s a bit surprising, given that many competitors offer ADAS as standard.

Performance and Range

The Windsor EV comes with a 38kWh battery that promises a range of 331 km. It’s powered by an electric motor with 134 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. Drivers can choose from four modes: Eco, Eco+, Normal, and Sport.

Pricing and Battery Rental

The starting price for the Windsor EV is Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). MG is offering this price through a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, where buyers rent the battery instead of buying it outright. The rental cost is Rs. 3.5 per km, which means if you drive about 50,000 km a year, the battery rental will add up to around Rs. 2 lakh annually. This setup lowers the initial cost of the car and makes it more budget-friendly.

Overall, the Windsor EV combines stylish design, advanced features, and an innovative battery rental option, making it an attractive choice for those looking to enter the electric vehicle market in India.
