Renault has unveiled the Symbioz, a new entrant in the brand’s SUV lineup. Available with petrol-hybrid powertrain, the Renault Symbioz features three-row seating to fulfil the requirements of large families. The new car is positioned between the Captur and the Austral SUV in Renault’s portfolio. While the Captur is a compact car, the Austral is a larger SUV. The Symbioz’s placement between its two siblings positions it as an arch-rival to the popular Nissan Qashqai.

Sharing its platform with the upcoming India-bound Duster, the Symbioz borrows design cues from the international-spec Captur. A combination of a 1.6-litre petrol engine and two electric motors powers the Symbioz, generating 145hp of maximum output.

Renault Symbioz: Design And Dimensions

The Renault Symbioz is 4,413mm long, 1,797mm wide and 1,575mm tall, offering ample space to its occupants. While it borrows design cues from the Captur, the unique grill pattern at the front makes it stand out. Moreover, its rear end as well as side panels are also distinctive. The Symbioz gets either 18-inch or 19-inch wheels, depending on the variant.

The interior of the Renault Symbioz is identical to that of the Captur, featuring Renault's Google-powered OpenR Link system-based 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The second row of seats is sliding, which is a unique feature. Movable up to 160mm backwards, it offers up to 221mm of knee room. This also expands the boot capacity to 624 litres from 492 litres, which is quite impressive.

Moreover, the space increases to 1,582 litres once you fold the 60:40-split rear seats. Furthermore, a Solarbay sunroof is offered with the top-end model and it has an electrochromic glass that tints automatically, doing away with the need for a traditional sunshade.

Powertrain and Performance

Once launched, the Renault Symbioz will be equipped with the E-Tech Full Hybrid 145 system including a 1.6-litre petrol engine, two electric motors, a 1.2kWh battery, and a multimodal automatic gearbox. This setup offers a combined output of 147hp.

Meanwhile, Renault will launch an all-new Duster in the Indian market and introduce more offerings starting from 2025. The brand’s current Indian lineup includes popular cars like Kiger, Kwid, and Triber. Rumours are also rife about the launch of a sporty variant of the Kiger.
