The Volkswagen T-Cross facelift has been launched for the emerging markets with a mid-cycle refresh. The SUV shares its underpinnings and some components with the Taigun, which is currently sold in India.

The T-Cross has been available in Brazil since April 2019, while the Taigun arrived in India about a year later. Its facelift brings some aesthetic changes to the exterior and interior, as well as important feature updates. For Europe, there is a slightly shorter version of the T-Cross, which received a facelift a few months ago.

Volkswagen T-Cross Facelift: What’s New?

The feature list is where the SUV has received the biggest changes. High-end variants now come with ADAS technology, which includes features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous braking, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring.

Additionally, top-spec variants boast a panoramic sunroof, soft-touch materials on the doors, a larger 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, climate control system, and an 8-way powered driver’s seat.

The modifications on the outside are relatively minor. The SUV now gets new LED detailing in the tail-lights, new front and rear bumpers, reprofiled LED headlights, and new 17-inch alloy wheels. Some of these changes were observed on the test mule spied previously.

The cabin of the facelifted T-Cross now boasts a tweaked dash design with distinctive upholstery for the seats with the T-Cross logo and restyled AC vents. The updated T-Cross retains the 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engines from VW's TSI family.

Is the Volkswagen T-Cross facelift an updated Taigun for India?

Volkswagen has not announced any official plans to introduce a Taigun facelift in India. The German carmaker is instead focusing on launching the seven-seater Tayron on our shores in 2025 and an affordable electric vehicle (EV) in 2026.

Still, since the T-Cross shares the for-emerging market MQB-A0 platform with Taigun, the two SUVs have a lot in common. Since the launch of the T-Cross preceded that of the Taigun, the South American model gave us a fair hint of what to expect in India.

However, there is no official information from VW India about introducing a facelift for the Taigun anytime soon.

Volkswagen is also looking for a local partner to reduce expenses for its next range of vehicles - the low cost MEB21G EV architecture-based EVs. The company also has plans to launch the GTI brand in India.
