One of the richest business tycoons in India and across Asia, Gautam Adani, addressed students of Hind College on the occasion of Teacher's Day. Giving a glimpse of his life as a student, the Adani Group Chairman said, "I was just 16 years old when I decided to break my first boundary. I had to do with my education and move to an unknown future in Mumbai. People still ask me why I moved to Mumbai and why I didn’t complete my education. The answer lies in the heart of every young dreamer who sees boundaries not as barriers but as challenges that test their courage."

He also mentioned the Dharavi Redevelopment Project in Mumbai and said that the project is not just about urban renewal but about restoring the dignity of more than 10 lakh people in the country who reside in the area.

Adani said, "Every country sees the time of such transformations which decide the direction of its future. The year 1947 was about independent India. The year 1991 was about freedom for our businesses. In the year 2014, the spirit of independence became stronger under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which many reforms took place and many major decisions regarding governance were taken."

He said that the future belongs to those who have the ability to see beyond the present, those who understand that the limits of today will be the starting point of tomorrow.

How Mundra Port changed the picture

Discussing the Mundra Port, Gautam Adani said that it is the largest commercial port in the country equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and the largest terminal for coal import. Adani said that in 1995, the Gujarat government had brought its first industrial plan through a public-private partnership, in which special attention was paid to the port. At that time global commodity trader Cargill had contacted them. He had given a proposal for a partnership for sourcing and manufacturing of salt from the Kutch region. However, this partnership did not materialize and they (Adani) were left with about 40,000 acres of marshy land.

The industrialist further said that what other people were seeing as a marshy land, for him it was a canvas waiting for transformation. Now this canvas has become the biggest port of our country. Mundra became his workplace and it really changed his vision. This is proof that when one dreams, works, and thinks, one becomes.

Dharavi redevelopment project

Talking about the world's most complex redevelopment project, Mumbai's Dharavi, Gautam Adani said that in the next decade, they will work to transform the world's largest slum. He added with determination, "For me, Dharavi is not just about urban renewal. This is to restore the honor of more than 10 lakh people in our country."
