Delhi Dry Days: According to an excise department notification, all liquor shops in Delhi will be closed on Wednesday 2 October, Additionally, select liquor shops will remain closed on dry days during October and November. These dry days include major national holidays and religious festivals.

The order of the Commissioner, Excise Department, Ravi Jha, issued on September 19, explains the reasons for closure on these dates.

Liquor shops in India will remain closed on October 2 to mark Gandhi Jayanti. Additionally, alcohol is sold on no Sundays, four Sundays in a week coincide with Chhath Puja and Guru Nanak Jayanti, and alcohol sales go on a break during the major religious festivals such as Diwali, Guru Tegh Bahadur Shaheedi Diwas, and Baisakhi.

In October, Liquor Shops Will Be Closed On Four Days:

  • October 2 – Gandhi Jayanti (Wednesday)
  • October 12 – Vijaya Dashami (Saturday)
  • October 17 – Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti (Thursday)
  • October 31 – Diwali (Thursday)

In November, Shops Will Be Closed On Two days:

  • November 15 – Guru Nanak Jayanti (Friday)
  • November 24 – Guru Tegh Bahadur Shaheedi Diwas (Sunday)

Permission will be given to L-15 and L-15F licensed hotels to serve liquor to their in-house guests. The excise department has also clarified that owners of licenced shops will not be compensated for the losses of liquor sales on dry days. Licensees have been asked to abide by the order and violators will be penalized with fines.
