Three Proposed Names

Amidst discussions, three potential names emerged: Haranandi Nagar, Gajaprastha, and Dudheshwarnath Nagar. These suggestions, influenced by the public's desires and historical connections, were put forward by various individuals and organizations within the district.

Historical and Cultural Roots

Reflecting on the historical context, BJP MLA Sunil Sharma recalled a previous proposal to rename Ghaziabad to Gajprastha, aligning with its significance in the Mahabharata era as a part of Hastinapur.

Mahant Narayan Giri, the head priest of Dudheshwar Nath temple, emphasized the ties to history, stating that these names relate to the city's association with the ancient Hastinapur, once a dense forest inhabited by elephants (called 'Gaj' in Hindi). The proposed names pay homage to this heritage.

Giri pointed out that according to Hindu texts, Ghaziabad was initially known as Haranandi, after Lord Brahma's daughter and Gangaji's younger sister. The city's ancient temple, Dudheshwarnath, adds weight to the proposal to rename Ghaziabad as Dudheshwarnath Nagar.
