In a shocking incident, a suicide case has been again reported from Mumbai’s Atal Setu. This is the second suicide case in two days. Reportedly a 52-year-old businessman jumped off the sea bridge and took his own life on Wednesday.

According to the police, the man was identified as Philip Hitesh Shah, resident of Matunga. He lived with his family and was said to be depressed over past few months. The police suspects that he might have taken this step due to the depression.

Senior police inspector Anjum Bagwan of the Nhava Sheva police station told The Indian Express that “Around 9 am, we received information that an unknown person stopped his vehicle on the northbound stretch at around 14.4 km from Navi Mumbai and jumped into the sea.”

Police mentioned that the rescue team was deployed to recover the body and then it was sent to hospital where the doctors declared him dead before treatment.

“We checked his vehicle and found his Aadhaar card through which he was identified and the family was contacted,” added Police Inspector Bagwan.

His wife informed the police that Shah was mentally disturbed and was undergoing treatment. The inspector said, “He left his house around 8 am after claiming that he was going to attend a function and would return in some time.”

The case of accidental death has been lodged and further investigation will take place.

Notably, a 40-year-old banker Sushant Chakravarti had jumped off the Atal Setu two days ago. His wife had mentioned that he was under intense work pressure.

The increasing number of suicide cases and attempts along the Atal Setu have surfaced the demand of safety nets on the bridge. Reportedly Navi Mumbai police requested (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) MMRDA to install safety nets on the bridge after a man jumped off the bridge on October 1. The installation of safety nets on the bridge can curb suicide attempts.
