'Travel Across Mumbai In Just 59 Minutes': MMRDA Launches Ambitious Ring Road Project
Mumbai: Since the city of Mumbai is to soon become blemish-free in terms of roads, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) planned the construction of an extra 90.18 km of roads. It has planned to build seven ring roads around the city. According to a report by Indian Express, this plan which has been estimated to bring travel time in the city of Mumbai down to one hour, will cost around ₹58,517 crore.

In the words of details, the scheme would entail projects such as metro lines, bridges, flyovers, and slum redevelopments, which would cost approximately ₹3 lakh crore. The ring roads would be built in a way that would facilitate greater connectivity in an east-west direction in the city, thereby enhancing the productivity of the city, too. Here Are The Routes Mumbai Is Going To Have
First Ring Road
It will start from Nariman Point, moving toward the Bandra Sea Link at the junction of Worli turn right towards Sewri-Worli Connector to Atal Setu's southern end and join the Orange Gate tunnel before returning to Nariman Point via the Coastal Road.
Second Ring Road
The second ring road starts at Nariman Point on the Mumbai Coastal Road and merges with the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, proceeding to the Western Express Highway (WEH), which will be extended till Santacruz Junction. This arrangement of roads will join the SCLR that will further reach till Orange Gate Tunnel and then return towards Nariman Point.
Third Ring Road
The third ring road will begin at Nariman Point and connect to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, the Bandra-Versova Link, and the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road.
Fourth Ring Road
This fourth ring road will start at Nariman Point but eventually will connect with Bandra-Worli Sea Link. It will further connect to Versova-Bandra Sea Link. A right turn onto the Versova-Dahisar Link Road will lead to Goregaon-Mulund Link Road which will join the Airoli Junction. From here, the fourth ring road will join the planned Eastern Freeway that will lead towards Orange Gate Tunnel before reaching Nariman Point.
Fifth Ring Road
The fifth ring road starts from Nariman Point to Bandra-Worli Sea Link and Versova-Bandra Sea Link, then it leads through the Versova-Dahisar Link Road to Mira-Bhayander and Bhayander Fountain Hotel Connector in Thane. The road will be connected to Gaimukh through the Ghodbunder-Gaimukh Tunnel. The road will then curve towards Anand Nagar-Saket flyover before finally passing into Orange Gate Tunnel to return to Nariman Point.
Sixth Ring Road
The sixth ring road will start at Nariman Point and connect to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, moving towards the Versova-Bandra Sea Link. It will then link the Versova-Dahisar Link Road to the Mira-Bhayander Link Road and the Uttan Link Road. This route will continue to the Anand Nagar-Saket flyover, connect to the Orange Gate Tunnel, and return to Nariman Point.
Seventh Ring Road
The seventh outer ring road would shoot north from Nariman Point linking into the Coastal Road, up to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, and the Versova-Bandra Sea Link. It would join the Versova-Dahisar Link Road and the Mira-Bhayander Link Road before eventually connecting into the Uttan Link Road and onto the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway. It will then pass through the Virar-Alibaug Multi-Modal Corridor and reach Atal Setu via JNPT Road (NH-348), which will take it to Orange Gate Tunnel on the Eastern Freeway before bringing it back at Nariman Point.
