India fast bowler Akash Deep made his Test debut early this year in the series against England and grabbed headlines in no time by his performances. With his disciplined bowling, he managed a place in the side for the on-going Bangladesh series and a place in the playing XI for the first Test against the same country.
He made a big impact at the Chennai match, taking two important wickets in the first innings. That helped get the tone right for India, and it also sparked discussions about his potential long-term role in the Test team, especially for this year's Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia later this year.

Before the second test against Bangladesh, he announced that he preferred not to think too far ahead with there being so much hard work to be done in focusing on the present.
"When we play at this level, we should not get confused that I played a certain style at that level (Ranji) and things are different here. I don't put too much pressure that I need to go to Australia and all that. I live in the present. It remains simple for me," Akash Deep said.
Understanding Your Own Strengths Very Crucial For A Player
"In the last two years, I have played a lot of cricket. It's not just three-month season for us. Even after Ranji, you play Duleep Trophy, Irani Cup. As a player, you need to understand yourself and know your strengths," he added.

On February 23, 2024, Akashdeep's journey reached a significant milestone as he received his maiden Test cap prior to the fourth Test in Ranchi, marking the day of his Test debut.
Akashdeep will also be featuring in India vs Bangladesh second Test will be starting from 27 September at Kanpur.
