Another Setback For Mohammed Shami

Shami has been left staring at the setback that could also cost him a chance to play in the five-Test series against Australia starting November 22, as reported by the Times of India.

Shami has not played for India since the 2023 ODI World Cup, wherein he ended up as the tournament's top wicket-taker. He had an ankle surgery, so IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup were off the radar. The cricketer from India has been keeping his followers updated on his recovery, which encompasses practice sessions, progress, and all the other things. For a long time, Shami has been stressing that one should not rush back to competitive matches.

"Shami had resumed bowling, and he was looking on track to make a comeback to competitive cricket soon. But this knee injury has flared up recently. BCCI's medical team is assessing the injury, but it may require quite a bit of time," a BCCI source told the daily.

Shami Going Through Proper Recovery Process At NCA

"It's a jolt for the NCA medical team. They have been working on him for over a year. They have one of the best workload management systems in place. The medical team is trying its best to put him back in the park soon."

Though not part of the team, Shami's name often finds its way into the discussions, as on the fifth day of the Kanpur Test when Ravi Shastri talked about how valuable he was for the team before the Australia tour. His original plan was to return during the New Zealand series starting October 16, thereby giving himself some match practice before leaving for Australia. However, with his current knee problems, he is unlikely to be chosen for India's next Test series. Back in Australia, India plays a practice match-possibly Shami's last opportunity there. With Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj almost certain to earn a place in the eleven, and Akash Deep promising to do so, competition is cut-throat.
