While Hollywood movies dominate the horror genre, some of the spine-chilling tales have come from foreign languages. And with OTT, more and more people are able to watch them from the comfort of their homes. Breaking the pattern of including jump scares every now and then, these non-English movies have steeped in psychological dread, taking fear to another level.

The Wailing (2016) – This South Korean movie involves mystery, supernatural horror and shamanism, and follows the arrival of a mysterious stranger in a little village. His arrival brings along sudden mysterious deaths due to an unknown disease. The story unfolds as a cop starring Kwak Do Won starts to investigate the case in order to save her daughter’s life. Towards the end, the sequences of possession and exorcism will surely leave one terrified. The film is written and directed by Na Hong Jin.

The Medium (2021) – Directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun and featuring performances from Narilya Gulmongkolpech, Sawanee Utoomma, and Sirani Yankittikan this Thai-South Korean production film explores shamanism and possession in a family. The story revolves around a woman, who gets possessed by an entity. The movie takes a sinister turn towards the end.

Siccin (2014) –Siccin is a Turkish supernatural horror movie that revolves around black magic, curses, dark rituals and family betrayal. The movie is directed by Alper Mestçi and stars Merve Ates, Toygun Ateş, and Pinar Çağlar Gençtürk in pivotal roles.

A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) - Directed by Kim Jee-woon and starring Im Soo-jung, Moon Geun-young, and Yum Jung-ah, A Tale of Two Sisters is a South Korean psychological thriller. It offers a haunting exploration of traumatic experiences, family secrets and the supernatural that keeps you hooked to the screen. The movie follows two sisters returning to their childhood home only to be haunted by supernatural occurrences intertwining family drama and ghostly apparitions leading to a haunting revelation.
