New Delhi:  Before entering the film industry, director Kiran Rao worked on several projects, including Aamir Khan's iconic film Lagaan. During an episode of the Cyrus Says podcast, she revealed that her income from advertising provided the financial stability she needed.

"I was a gig worker. I took jobs as they came, worked as long as they paid, and then looked for the next one while wondering if my savings would last and if I could cover my rent. When the host mentioned his involvement in Lagaan and suggested that it should have been financially rewarding, I explained that feature films didn’t pay. It was my income from advertising that sustained my life in Mumbai. The first AD system was introduced with Lagaan."

Kiran also mentioned buying her first car from her father for ₹1,000, saying, "I bought my car from my father. He sold it to me for ₹1,000. Have you ever heard of that? My father said, 'That's the only way to save money.' We drove it from Bangalore to Mumbai on the newly minted expressway."

In a recent interview, Kiran Rao elaborated on her decision to publicly announce her divorce from Aamir Khan. She stated, "It was a conscious decision because, in some ways, we do realize that...You know you are in the public gaze. You are living your life very publicly. What we were doing was completely legal, morally, and ethically fine. It's better to be upfront about it and not let people guess about it."

On the work front, Kiran Rao made her directorial comeback after a decade with 'Laapataa Ladies.' Both audiences and critics warmly received the film, which was produced by Aamir Khan's production house.
