Pakistani Drama Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum Gets Embroiled In Controversy; Details Inside!

Artist Seffy Soomro revealed that his long-lost work was used in the shoot of Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum.

Pakistani Drama Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum has been trending across Asia with Hania Aamir and Fahad Mustafa keeping the audience hooked to an engaging storyline and sizzling chemistry. However, the popular show has found itself in the eye of controversies after renowned artist Seffy Soomro pointed out his missing artwork being used in the show’s shoot.

In one of the episodes’, Adeel (Emmad Irfani) is seeing visiting an art gallery and admiring the paintings with his wife Rubab’s Friends (Areej Chaudhary). Things took a surprising turn when artist Seffy’s came forward to claim that those were his paintings and were missing since 2017.

Taking to his Facebook handle, he wrote a post in Hindi that read: “Maine ye paintings 2017 me Frere hall Karachi me di thi exhibition ke liye, Uske baad mujhe ye paintings wapas nahi mili.” The artiste was informed that the paintings were “stolen”. “But I saw them in 2024, in the 17th episode of Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum.”

He further said that his paintings were sold for profit and he has not been credited at all. “ Mujhe ye jhoot bola gya tha, iska matlab meri paintings par qabza karke inhone aagey sell ki hain, or profit kamaya hai, or mujhe ab tak koi credit nahi mila jab ki is painting ka maalik main hu.’

Seffy claims that the work shown were part of his thesis for University of Sindh’s Fine Arts Departmen. “Mere paas proofs bhi majood hain,” he stated.

Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum Production Company Reacts

After the artist’s facebook post caught attention, the production company behind Kabhi Main kabhi Tum shared a statement and clarified that they had nothing to do with the issue.

“It has come to our attention that a painting featured in a scene from our ongoing drama Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum was used without proper permission from the respected artist. As artists and producers ourselves, our sympathies go out to the concerned individual. This being said, Big Bang Entertainment would like to clarify that we have no involvement in this matter.”

The statement further stated that the place in question was “rented”. “And as per our agreement, all assets present, including the paintings in question, belonged to the venue owners. Unfortunately this is beyond the control of our production team, and we encourage the artist to directly address the matter with the concerned parties,” read the note.

“We hope for a swift and fair resolution and expect all stakeholders to respect the unprecedented success and acclaim Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum has organically achieved these past few weeks. We’re strong proponents of fair usage rights and will continue to maintain our stance in areas we can control,” it ended.

Action Against The Theft

After the matter gained public attention, Sindh Culture and Tourism Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah formed a two-member committee to inquire the matter. The team consists of director general of culture and the director general of antiquities, who together will investigate the alleged theft.
