An old interview featuring Sawarn Sivia, a close friend of the late Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila, has gained traction on YouTube since the release of the biopic directed by Imtiaz Ali. Sivia disclosed in the interview that Sridevi had once expressed her desire to work with Chamkila, adding an intriguing aspect to the singer's legacy.

Sawarn Sivia mentioned in the interview that Sridevi had watched Amar Singh Chamkila perform and expressed interest in collaborating with him in a film. However, Chamkila declined her offer, stating that he couldn't speak Hindi. Despite Sridevi's offer to arrange Hindi training within a month, Chamkila declined, citing a potential loss of ₹10 lakh during that time. Sridevi then proposed to work on a Punjabi film with him, but unfortunately, it never materialized.

About Amar Singh Chamkila

Born as Dhanni Ram in Punjab, Amar Singh Chamkila gained fame for his controversial and provocative music, earning him the nickname 'Elvis of Punjab'. Alongside his wife, Amarjot, Chamkila performed extensively in the state. Tragically, on March 8, 1988, Chamkila, his wife, and two other members of their group were assassinated. To this day, the case remains unsolved, leaving a haunting mystery surrounding the circumstances of their deaths.

In 2023, Diljit Dosanjh took on the lead role in the Punjabi film 'Jodi', which drew inspiration from the life of Chamkila. Imtiaz Ali's film 'Amar Singh Chamkila' premiered on Netflix to widespread acclaim from both fans and critics. The movie, featuring music by AR Rahman, intricately portrays Chamkila's journey from obscurity to stardom and the challenges he faced amidst his success, leading up to his tragic demise.
