Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a gathering during Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 programme at Vigyan Bhawan.

In his speech, PM Modi said, “In the last 10 years, crores of Indians have made this mission their personal goal. After this journey of a decade, I appreciate the contribution of all countrymen, the cleanliness workers, religious leaders, our players, celebrities, NGOs, and media persons. You all made the Swachh Bharat Mission a people's revolution. The President, Vice President, former President and former Vice President participated and contributed to 'Swachhata hi Sewa'... CMs of all states and public representatives also contributed to the cleanliness drive... In the 15 days of 'seva pakhwada', more than 27 lakh events were held, in which more than 28 crore people participated.”

He talked about different projects that have been inaugurated at this juncture. “On this significant juncture, cleanliness projects worth Rs 10000 crores have been inaugurated. As part of Mission Amrut, water and sewage treatment plants will be set up in various cities. Be it work related to Namami Gange or the 'Govardhan' plant for the production of biogas from garbage, all this will take the Swacch Bharat Mission to new heights,” said PM Modi.

On Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Talking about the success of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which was started in 2 October 2014, PM Modi said, “1000 years from now, when studies will be carried out about India of the 21st century, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan will be remembered. In this century, Swachh Bharat is the world's biggest and the most successful people's resolution led by people and joined in by people.”

PM Modi further said, “There were some people who considered it their right to hurt the pride of cleanliness workers. But when we all began this cleanliness drive, the workers started thinking highly of themselves and that others are also coming with us. They feel proud of themselves that they are involved in cleanliness not just to fill their stomachs, but to also keep their country clean.”
