A political storm has been kicked up over President Droupadi Murmu forwarding a memorandum from BJP MLAs to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, demanding the dismissal of the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government. BJP, in its letter to the President, mentioned a "constitutional crisis" that has been created after the imprisonment of the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, which in turn caused delays in governance.

BJP's Allegations

Administrative paralysis had set in because Kejriwal continued to head the government despite being in jail for over four months," said BJP leaders. Senior BJP leader Vijender Gupta said that AAP government did not constitute the 6th Delhi Finance Commission and did not act upon any issue brought out in the report of Comptroller and Auditor General. Gupta also made it a point to say that the issue at stake is not only related to the present government but signifies a failure of governance in the last ten years.

Sharp Response by AAP

Meanwhile, the AAP leadership has struck back hard at this BJP move. Atishi, a high-profile AAP Cabinet Minister, berated the BJP for attempting to sack the Kejriwal government undemocratically to avoid defeat in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. She said the BJP has already accepted defeat in the forthcoming elections and is afraid of the increasing popularity of Arvind Kejriwal.

Sanjay Singh, AAP's Rajya Sabha MP, also reacted strongly and said his party is ready for the elections and BJP should declare the election date.

Kejriwal's Legal Woes

Arvind Kejriwal has been in judicial custody since March 21 after being arrested in the Delhi excise policy case. His refusal to resign on issues of corruption has been the rallying point for BJP's demand for the dismissal of the AAP government.

Government Review Underway

The secretariat to the President, as of today, has confirmed that the concerns have been forwarded to the Home Secretary for review, though no final decision has been made as of yet. Meanwhile, the AAP continues to criticize the BJP's efforts as politically motivated.
