AIIMS Resident Doctors Call Off Strike After Supreme Court Intervenes In Kolkata Rape Case

The Resident Doctors’ Association of AIIMS, New Delhi, has ended their 11-day strike following the Supreme Court’s intervention in the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. In a statement, the association announced their decision to resume duties, citing the Supreme Court’s appeal and assurances regarding the safety and security of healthcare workers.

Gratitude to the Supreme Court

The AIIMS resident doctors expressed their gratitude to the Supreme Court for addressing the pressing issue of doctor safety, which had become a focal point after the horrific incident at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. The court’s involvement reassured the doctors that their concerns were being taken seriously.

Supreme Court Urges Doctors to Return to Work

During a hearing on the case, the Supreme Court urged the protesting doctors to return to work, assuring that no punitive action would be taken if they resumed their duties promptly. The court emphasized the critical need for doctors in maintaining public health infrastructure, stressing that their absence deprives patients of essential services.
