Two days after Delhi Police registered a case against Kumar based on a complaint filed by Maliwal, he was detained. Maliwal alleged in her complaint that Bibhav Kumar slapped her 7–8 times and kicked her repeatedly in her chest and stomach when she visited the Chief Minister's residence on May 13.

Swati Maliwal claimed that the assault by Bibhav did not stop even after she informed him that she was on her periods. On Friday, Delhi Police took Maliwal to Arvind Kejriwal's residence to recreate the crime scene. Her statement was also recorded before a magistrate at the Tis Hazari court.
