Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced new laws against 'Land Jihad' and 'Love Jihad'

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that his government will introduce two new laws targeting 'Land Jihad' and 'Love Jihad.'

The first law will require government approval for any Muslim seeking to purchase Hindu property, and vice versa.

The second law will impose life imprisonment for those involved in 'love jihad.'

Additionally, Sarma unveiled plans to implement a domicile policy, limiting government job eligibility to those born in Assam. He assured that the government has prioritized indigenous people for the one lakh government jobs promised during the elections.

Sarma also discussed the regulation of land transactions between Hindus and Muslims, noting that such transactions will need the chief minister's consent. He reiterated his commitment to enacting a uniform civil code in Assam.

Last month, Sarma criticized the situation in Jharkhand, alleging that 'Bangladeshi infiltrators' were illegally occupying tribal land. Despite a court order to return the land to an Adivasi family, local authorities failed to act, and the family faced attacks from alleged infiltrators.

Sarma has frequently voiced concerns about demographic changes, claiming that regions like Assam, Jharkhand, and West Bengal are experiencing a ‘demographic invasion.’ He expects the 2021 census to reveal significant shifts in Eastern India's demographics, attributing the issue to ineffective appeasement policies.
