Abdullah was in burrows: Engineer Rashid

Speaking to the media as he came out of the prison, Engineer Rashid refuted all the claims made against him by former CM Omar Abdullah. He said that while he was behind bars for 5.5 years, Omar Abdullah lived in Gulmarg and London for all those years. He also stated that Abdullah was in burrows during that period and has come out ahead of the elections.

Speaking over Omar Abdullah's claim of him being inclined towards the centre, Rashid said, "I won't let down my people. I take a pledge that I will fight Modi's narrative of Naya Kashmir which has miserably failed." He also said that Omar's and Mehbooba's fight is for the chair, his is for the people.

Voting was people's resentment

Expressing strong opposition against the government's decision to scrap Article 370, Rashid said that the people of Kashmir are not happy with it and that he will fight against Modi's policy till his last breath. "I'm the victim of the BJP, how do you say it?" reacted Rashid when asked if he would support the BJP from the outside.

As per Engineer Rashid, the people of Kashmir voted in the Lok Sabha elections in an unprecedented manner not because they were happy with the centre but because they wanted to raise their voices after what happened on August 5, 2019. Social media were banned and there was no option to speak, so casting their votes to express resentment was the only option for them. "It was not in love for Modiji. It was their resentment against the government for the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A", said Engineer Rashid.

On being labelled as an Islamist and a separatist, he said, "I'm an Islamist but not radical. If I'm a separatist, then the entire Kashmir has gone out of your hands." Stressing the massive mandate he grabbed in the general elections when he defeated Omar by more than two lakh votes, he said, "saare log mere sath hain."
