Battled Taunts For Being Transgender, Left Home, Will Return Home After Nine Years As Sub Inspector In Bihar

The Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission has announced the results for 1,275 sub-inspector positions, with three transgender individuals making history by becoming sub-inspectors. This pioneering achievement started in Bihar and includes two trans men and one trans woman. Among them, Manvi Madhu Kashyap from a small village in Bihar, stands out as the first transgender sub-inspector in the country.

 Criticism, taunts, distress

Manvi Madhu Kashyap hails from Bhagalpur village in Bihar. Her journey to becoming a Sub-Inspector was not easy. Madhu's father was no longer in this world, and as a transgender person, she faced a lot of taunts from people. Troubled by these taunts, Madhu decided to leave home and ran away.

Identity crisis? Identity with pride

Madhu says that to hide her identity, she had to cover her face when going out of the house. Her mother also used to visit her in Patna secretly to avoid people. Now, she plans to return to her village in a police uniform and tell everyone that she is not ashamed of being transgender.

Homecoming in uniform

Manvi's family includes two sisters, a brother, and her mother. She has not been back to her home for the past 9 years. Manvi says she will only return home after she has worn the police uniform. To reach this milestone, she worked very hard. After leaving home, she was guided by Guru Rahman and completed her further studies at his Gurukul.

Denied admission to coaching centers

When Madhu, who dreamed of becoming a police officer, approached coaching centers in Patna, she was refused admission. With the help of Guru Rahman, Madhu and two other transgender friends started their own preparation for the sub-inspector exam. Madhu studied for 8 hours daily and exercised for an hour and a half. Additionally, she ran every morning at Gandhi Maidan. Her hard work paid off when she completed a 6-minute physical test running task in just 4:34 minutes.
