Bengal Woman Ends Life Following Public Humiliation Over Alleged Extramarital Affair

West Bengal: In Jalpaiguri district, a woman reportedly took her own life following verbal abuse and physical assault by a group of women over an alleged extramarital affair. Four individuals, including two women, have been arrested in connection with the incident. This comes amidst public outrage over the recent public flogging of a couple in Uttar Dinajpur district for a similar reason.

In his police report, the woman's husband said she had been missing for a week. She returned home on Monday, and the incident happened in Jalpaiguri's Dabgram-Fulbari area.

The women group verbally and physically attacked the victim. When her husband tried to help, they also assaulted him.

Later that night, the woman drank pesticide and passed away, according to the complaint.

According to news agency PTI, Deputy Commissioner (East) Dipak Sarkar confirmed that four people have been arrested.

This recent event happened shortly after the couple was publicly beaten in Chopra area of Uttar Dinajpur, leading to strong criticism from the Opposition in West Bengal.

Video of the Chopra incident captured a man hitting the couple with a bamboo stick, as bystanders surrounded them in a circle.

The incident reportedly involved local Trinamool Congress leader Tajjimul Haque, also known as JCB.

The woman seen in the video has filed a complaint, claiming it was recorded without her permission.
