Bengaluru: Techie From Tamil Nadu Dies After Car Falls From Flyover; Had Come To Collect US Visa
In a devastating accident early Tuesday morning, a speeding car plunged off the Yeshwanthpur flyover in Bengaluru, resulting in the death of a 29-year-old software engineer from Tamil Nadu. The victim, S. Shabarish, had come to Bengaluru to collect his U.S. visa and was planning to travel to America soon.
The Incident Details And Immediate Impact
The accident occurred at around 3:45 a.m. when Shabarish and his friends were heading towards Tumakuru. The driver, Mithun Chakravarthy, lost control of the vehicle while navigating a curve on the flyover. The car, which was reportedly speeding at over 120 kmph, crashed into the median, collided with an oncoming motorcycle, and then fell 30 feet from the flyover.
Shabarish, who was seated in the front passenger seat, succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. Chakravarthy, Anushree, and Shankar Ram, who were also in the car, sustained severe injuries. Anushree was thrown out of the vehicle due to the impact, while the others were critically injured and required intensive medical care.
Emergency Response And Medical Treatment
Passersby alerted the Hoysala patrol vehicle, leading to the swift transportation of the injured to local hospitals. Anushree was treated at a nearby private hospital, while Chakravarthy, Ram, and another injured passenger were taken to Manipal Hospital. The medical team reported serious conditions, including brain injuries, facial fractures, and severe chest trauma.

Legal And Safety Implications
The police have registered a case against Mithun Chakravarthy under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving) and 106 (causing death) of the BNS. Authorities have found liquor bottles inside the car and are conducting a medical test to determine if Chakravarthy was driving under the influence.
Old Incident On Same Flyover In Bengaluru
This Yeshwanthpur flyover has a history of accidents. In December 2009, a vehicle from a Central Armed Reserve convoy, part of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s convoy, overturned at the same location, injuring two policemen.
