BJP Releases 1st List Of Candidates For Lok Sabha; PM Modi, 34 Ministers Included
In a strategic move aimed at securing a significant early advantage in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with a target of securing 370 seats, the BJP has unveiled a list of 195 candidates even prior to the announcement of poll dates. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to contest from Varanasi for the third consecutive time. The list comprises 34 ministers, along with two former chief ministers, and is characterized by the inclusion of 28 women, 47 leaders under the age of 50, and 57 members from the OBC community. Notably, 51 candidates hail from Uttar Pradesh, 20 from West Bengal, and five from Delhi, indicating a strategic focus on key regions.

Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, previously a Rajya Sabha member, will be contesting from Porbandar in Gujarat. Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram is anticipated to witness a compelling contest, with Rajya Sabha member and minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar vying for the seat currently held by Congress' Shashi Tharoor.

Among other ministers, Jyotiraditya Scindia will be contesting from Guna in Madhya Pradesh, while Bhupender Yadav, a Rajya Sabha MP, will be fielded from Alwar.

Additionally, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, despite not being appointed as the Madhya Pradesh chief minister following the BJP's remarkable victory last year, appears to be moving towards a national role as he is set to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Vidisha.
