Haryana Assembly Elections

Haryana: In a significant move, the Haryana BJP has written to the Election Commission of India, requesting a change or shift in the assembly election date. They have cited holidays before and after October 1 as a major reason for seeking the postponement. Congress Party has taken a major dig at the BJP's bid. Former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda has called the bid a defeatist move by BJP.

The Election Commission announced last Friday, August 16 that Haryana will vote in a single phase on October 1. The result for the 90 seats in the Haryana Assembly Elections is scheduled to be announced on October 4, 2024. In his written letter to EC, Haryana BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli has highlighted that October 1 may see fewer voters at polling booths if they plan vacations before and after the scheduled election date. He has asked the poll body to fix a new date for Haryana Assembly Elections.

Electoral Officer Confirms Receiving Email

As per PTI reports, Pankaj Agarwal, Haryana's Chief Electoral Officer said that they received an email on Friday from the state BJP and forwarded it to the Election Commission. Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini has also confirmed that Mohan Lal Badoli has written to the chief polling body.

Congress Takes A Dig At BJP

Taking a dig at BJP Haryana, Senior Congress leader Hooda said that the people of Haryana don't want a BJP-led government. BJP has accepted their defeat by seeking postponement of Assembly Elections. "We want EC to hold the election on time", he adds.
