Champai Soren, a key figure in the movement advocating for the creation of the separate state of Jharkhand, has been selected as the next leader after the incumbent Chief Minister Hemant Soren stepped down. Hemant Soren's resignation came amidst speculation about his potential arrest by the Enforcement Directorate.

Jharkhand minister Banna Gupta informed reporters that Champai Soren has been selected as the leader of the Legislative Party. Gupta mentioned that they visited the Raj Bhawan to formally request the Governor for the oath ceremony of Champai Soren as the next Chief Minister.

Tensions escalated in the state capital, Ranchi, as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) began questioning Hemant Soren in the afternoon. In response, security measures were heightened, and Section 144 was enforced around the residence of the now former Chief Minister. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha workers staged protests against the central agency in reaction to the developments.

Officials reported that Hemant Soren has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Enforcement Directorate (ED) personnel. This action was taken in response to the searches conducted by the agency at his residence in Delhi on Monday.
