Chhattisgarh: A 30-year-old man from Balrampur, Chhattisgarh, cut off his finger and presented it to Goddess Kali at a temple following the BJP-led NDA's victory in the Lok Sabha elections.

On June 4, Durgesh Pandey, a supporter of the BJP, became depressed upon learning that the Congress was initially leading in the Lok Sabha election trends. Subsequently, he visited a Kali temple and prayed for the BJP's victory.

Later, when Pandey saw the BJP emerging as the largest party and the NDA crossing the majority mark of 272 seats, he was overjoyed. He returned to the Kali temple and chopped off his left-hand finger, offering it to the goddess.

After that, he attempted to stop the bleeding by tying a cloth around the wound, but it only worsened over time. Concerned about his condition, his family rushed him to the Community Health Centre in Samari.

The medical staff provided emergency first aid but determined that he needed to be referred to Ambikapur Medical College due to the severity of his injury.

Doctors at the medical college conducted surgery to halt the bleeding, but they couldn't reattach the severed part of his finger due to the delay in treatment. Despite this, Pandey's condition is now stable, and he is out of danger. In a closely contested election, the NDA won 293 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats, with allies like TDP's N Chandrababu Naidu and JD(U)'s Nitish Kumar contributing to the alliance crossing the majority mark. The Opposition INDIA bloc performed unexpectedly well, securing 234 seats.

Narendra Modi is scheduled to take oath as the Prime Minister for a record third time on Sunday evening in a high-profile ceremony expected to be attended by foreign leaders.
