CRPF Jawan Killed As Security Forces Gun Down Terrorist In Jammu's Kathua

One CRPF personnel was killed during an encounter with a hiding terrorist in Kathua district, Jammu, following an attack by suspected Pakistani terrorists.

On Wednesday morning, one CRPF personnel died during an encounter with a terrorist who was in hiding. This occurred as security forces launched follow-up search operations after a suspected Pakistani terrorist was killed following an attack on a village near the International Border (IB) in Jammu's Kathua district on Tuesday night.

Security forces used drones to assist in ongoing search and combing operations in Kathua's Hiranagar following Tuesday's encounter. They also cordoned off the area.

Authorities reported that the deceased terrorist was found in possession of Rs 1 lakh in Indian currency. Additionally, recovered items included three magazines with 30 rounds each, one magazine with 24 rounds, 75 rounds in a separate polythene bag, three live grenades, and various items such as Pakistan-made chocolates, dry chana, stale rotis, medicines, injections, painkillers, one syringe, two packs of A4 batteries, one handset wrapped in tape with an antenna, and two wires hanging from the handset.

ADGP of Jammu and Kashmir, Anant Jain, stated, "There were two terrorists who asked for water from some houses. As soon as the information was received, the teams of SHO and SDO reached the spot. One of the terrorists was killed in the exchange of fire. The search operation to apprehend the second terrorist is currently underway."

The firing started around 8 pm on Tuesday and continued for at least 20 minutes, injuring some local civilians. Residents expressed fear and reluctance to leave their homes.

According to one local resident, the area is typically peaceful, and the encounter was initially terrifying. By morning, many young people had come out to assist the security forces.

ADGP Anant Jain clarified that reports of multiple injuries were inaccurate.
