Days After Kolkata Incident, 13-Year-Old Molested By Lab Technician At Howrah Hospital

Howrah: A 13-year-old girl receiving treatment for pneumonia at a hospital in Howrah, West Bengal, was allegedly molested by a laboratory technician on Saturday night, police said. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. when the girl was taken for a CT scan. According to her family, she came out from the department in tears and sought help from another patient’s relative.

Accused Apprehended

The relative, who filmed the aftermath of the alleged assault, chased down the accused, identified as Aman Raj, a contractual employee at the hospital. In the video, the girl described the assault, which was shared widely on social media. The girl’s mother, who was waiting outside, heard her cries and rushed to her daughter’s side before alerting the authorities.

Public Outcry and Arrest

The news quickly caused widespread anger among the local community. The victim's family and relatives assembled at the hospital to demonstrate and reportedly tried to attack the accused. The police arrived to intervene, saving the technician from the crowd and detaining him based on the family's complaint.

A String of Hospital Assaults

This incident is the latest in a series of sexual assault cases reported in West Bengal hospitals, following the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last month, which led to widespread protests. Local authorities are investigating the matter, and public anger continues to mount over the safety of women and girls in the state’s healthcare facilities.
