Delhi Jal Board Office Vandalized Amid Water Crisis; Clash Over Tap Water Leaves 3 Injured

During a severe heatwave, Delhi's water crisis has sparked public outrage against the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. A group of people vandalized the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) office in Chhattarpur, smashing windows with earthen pots, according to a video shared by news agency ANI.

This incident sparked a war of words between BJP and AAP leaders. Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj shared the vandalism video on X, accusing BJP leaders of inciting the destruction.

BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri accused the Delhi government of corruption and attempting to divert attention from these charges. He claimed, "They are trying to change the narrative to protect themselves from corruption charges. The Delhi Jal Board hasn't been audited and is facing a Rs 70,000 crore loss. This is a corrupt government. We demand to be free from this government," as quoted by ANI.

Bidhuri urged the public not to damage property, acknowledging their anger but advising restraint. He said, "People can act out of anger. I am thankful to BJP workers for calming the crowd. This is government and public property, and damaging it serves no purpose. I appeal to everyone not to vandalize public property."

Meanwhile, a fight over water from a common tap in Dwarka district led to three people being hospitalized. Police have registered cross-cases based on complaints from both parties.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari participated in the "matka phod" (earthen pot breaking) protest and criticized the AAP government for not having a water policy.
