New Delhi: Police apprehended a landlord's son from the Shakarpur area of New Delhi for allegedly installing spy cameras in his tenant's apartment. Karan, 30, had reportedly installed two spy cameras in his female tenant's bedroom and washroom. These cameras were installed in the bulb holder and could not be operated online.

WhatsApp-linked device prompted scrutiny

Though the woman promptly logged off the unknown laptop from her account, she went ahead with suspicion and inspected her complete house. "She found one camera installed in the bulb holder of her bathroom and alerted the police by making a PCR Call", stated a senior police official.

A sub-inspector with a constable reached her place and thoroughly checked her space in which another camera was discovered in the bulb's holder installed in the bedroom. Because she was a lone resident, suspecting anyone was a little difficult. As the interrogation followed, the student said that she handed over her keys to the landlord's son whenever she left for her home.

Plan, execution and the accused

During the police investigation, Karan told the police officials that the woman had left keys with him three months back while going to visit her hometown. Taking the opportunity, he bought three spy cameras from the electronics store and installed one in the bedroom and another in the washroom.

Because these were basic cameras and couldn't be operated online, the footage was stored in the memory card. To transfer those clips from the memory card to his laptop, Karan used to ask for keys on the pretext of electronic repairs. Police have recovered one spy camera and two laptops from the 30-year-old accused who is a person with disability; a probe is underway.
