Families Of Mangaf Fire Victims To Receive USD 15,000 Compensation From Kuwait

The Kuwait government has declared its decision to offer USD 15,000 (around Rs 12.5 lakh) in compensation to the families of each victim who perished in the tragic fire in the southern Ahmadi Governorate on July 12th.

A fire ignited by an electrical short circuit in the guard's room on the ground floor of a seven-story building in Mangaf city tragically resulted in the deaths of 50 individuals. Among the victims were 46 Indians, three Filipinos, and one unidentified person. The building accommodated 196 migrant workers, with a majority being Indians.

As per government sources reported by the Arab Times newspaper, compensation will be disbursed to the embassies representing the victims. The embassies will oversee the swift and efficient distribution of funds to the affected families, offering crucial support in this challenging period.

Besides the compensation from the Kuwaiti government, the Indian government has declared Rs 2 lakh each for the families of Indian nationals who perished in the fire. The Kerala government has additionally committed to offering Rs 5 lakh financial aid to the families of the 24 Malayalis who lost their lives in the tragic incident.

The public prosecutor in Kuwait has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the causes and factors contributing to the fatal fire. Authorities have arrested multiple individuals, including a Kuwaiti citizen and several foreigners, on charges related to manslaughter and negligence in security and safety measures following the fire.
