fatal mine collapse in mizoram landslide kills 15 workers during heavy rain

Heavy rains in Aizawl city today caused a landslide in the eastern state of Mizoram, leading to the collapse of a stone mine. The disaster resulted in the deaths of 15 workers, with many more still buried under the debris. Rescue teams are actively working on the site and have successfully rescued 2 workers so far. Police reported that the area has been experiencing heavy rainfall since this morning, which triggered the mine's collapse.

The accident occurred in a mine situated between Meltham and Hlimen in the southern part of Aizawl city, Mizoram. When the mine collapsed, workers tried to escape, but not everyone managed to get out. The police and administration were promptly informed about the incident. Upon receiving the information, rescue teams from the NDRF and the administration arrived at the scene. A police force has been deployed to manage the crowd, as there is considerable anger among the people, who are pleading for the rescue of their family members.

Media reports indicate that rain is hindering rescue operations. A landslide on National Highway-6 in Hunthar has isolated Aizawl from the rest of the country. Many schools in the state have also been closed due to the rain. Despite the state government's alert, mining work continued, leading to public anger. People are demanding that the police take action against the mine owner.
