The final phase of voting for 40 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections has finished, with 65.65% of voters participating. Samba district saw the most voters, with 73.45% turnout, while Baramulla had the lowest at 55.73%.

Higher Voter Participation

Voter participation has been strong in this election. The first phase saw more than 61% turnout, and the second phase had 57%. This is the first assembly election in ten years and the first since Article 370 was removed in August 2019, which gave Jammu and Kashmir special status.

Voting Details

Voting started at 7 AM with 415 candidates running, including well-known leaders like Tara Chand and Muzaffar Beig. More than 3.9 million people were eligible to vote, and 5,060 polling stations were set up by the Election Commission. They also created 240 special polling stations to make voting easier for everyone.

After the removal of Article 370, many people, like West Pakistani refugees, Valmiki Samaj, and Gorkha community members, got the right to vote for the first time. They were excited to cast their votes early in the day.

Competition Between Parties

This election is a multi-party race for 90 seats. The National Conference (NC) and Congress are working together, while the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are the other big contenders.
