On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet granted approval for the construction of two new Delhi Metro routes. These corridors will link Lajpat Nagar to G Block in Saket and Inderlok to Indraprastha, spanning a total distance of about 20 kilometers. The introduction of these corridors is expected to greatly benefit approximately 250,000 commuters. Notably, this announcement precedes the announcement of Lok Sabha election dates by a few days. The estimated cost for the metro project is approximately Rs 8,399 crore.

The corridor between Lajpat Nagar and Saket G Block will extend over 8 kilometers and include eight stations, while the Inderlok to Indraprastha line will stretch 12 kilometers with 10 stations. These newly proposed lines aim to offer direct connectivity and cut down travel time for commuters, eliminating the need for lengthy detours. Moreover, they will link bustling commercial zones, addressing the escalating congestion issues in the city.
