HC Authorizes NTA To Pursue Legal Action Against NEET Student Over Forged Documents, Questions OMR Tear Allegation

In a recent ruling, the Allahabad High Court addressed a petition filed by a NEET candidate, Ayushi Patel, who claimed that the National Testing Agency (NTA) had withheld her result and alleged her OMR answer sheet was torn. The court determined that Patel had submitted forged documents, prompting the NTA to take legal action against her.

The legal saga began when Patel asserted that the NTA informed her of the non-disclosure of her result due to a purportedly torn OMR sheet. This claim gained traction after Patel shared a video on social media, intensifying discussions amidst broader concerns about NEET's administration.

Patel's petition sought manual evaluation of her OMR sheet and demanded an inquiry into the NTA's handling of her case, advocating for a suspension of admission counseling pending investigation. Responding to the court's order on June 12, the NTA presented Patel's original records, confirming the integrity of her OMR sheet.

Subsequent scrutiny by the court revealed that Patel's petition was based on falsified documents, prompting her advocate to withdraw the petition, a request granted by the court. The NTA confirmed their decision to pursue legal action against Patel for submitting forged documents.

NTA Clarification 

In response to allegations circulated via Patel's video, the NTA clarified that no official communication reported a torn OMR sheet, affirming the sheet's integrity and the accuracy of the recorded scores. An official statement emphasized that all results are available online, reinforcing transparency in the examination process.

The court concluded that due to the submission of forged documents, it could not intervene in the NTA's decision to pursue legal action. This development underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in conducting national entrance examinations like NEET.

The controversy, amplified by social media, highlights the complexities and challenges in managing standardized testing procedures and the necessity for stringent verification protocols to uphold fairness and credibility.
