PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti announced that she is cancelling her political campaign scheduled for 29 September in view of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s death. She has expressed grief over his death and conveyed the same on X handle. She asserted that she stands with people of Palestine and Lebanon.

“Cancelling my campaign tomorrow in solidarity with the martyrs of Lebanon & Gaza especially Hassan Nasarullah. We stand with the people of Palestine & Lebanon in this hour of immense grief & exemplary resistance,” wrote Mehbooba Mufti.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) yesterday confirmed that Hezbollah leader, Hassan Nasrallah was killed on Saturday after Israel conducted an airstrike targeting him in Beirut.

The announcement of cancellation of political campaign by Mehbooba Mufti comes at a time when Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing assembly elections after decades and abrogation of Article 370. Two phases have been concluded on September 18 and 25 respectively, while the third phase is scheduled for October 1. The results will be declared on October 8.

According to the reports, protest march were held in various districts of Jammu and Kashmir with people condemning the killing of Hassan Nasrallah by the Israeli Forces. In Budgam, people were seen holding portraits of Nasrallah. Similarly in Srinagar, people gathered in large number to protest over Nasrallah’s death.

Mufti’s announcement has caused a stir in political atmosphere of J&K amid assembly elections. In response to her cancellation, Former Deputy CM of J&K and BJP leader Kavinder Gupta said, “Why does Hassan Nasarullah's death pain, Mehbooba Mufti? When Hindus in Bangladesh are attacked and killed they are tight-lipped...These are crocodile tears and people understand the intent behind this.”
