Himachal Pradesh: Six Congress MLAs, Engaged In Cross-Voting Disqualified From Assembly

Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly on Thursday disqualified six MLAs under the anti-defection law. This development comes after these MLAs cross-voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recent Rajya Sabha election.

What Did The Speaker Say? 

Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathanian announced, "The six MLAs, who ran under the Congress symbol, have activated the clauses of the anti-defection law... I now pronounce that these individuals no longer hold membership in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly with immediate effect"

What Is The Current Situation In Himachal Pradesh?

Despite the political turmoil caused by the cross-voting and a minister's rebellion during the Rajya Sabha election, the Congress government, led by Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, successfully navigated the crisis. The government passed the budget on Wednesday, and Minister Vikramaditya Singh expressed willingness to delay resignation demands until discussions with party leaders conclude, providing a temporary relief to the Congress.
