IMD Issues Red Alert As Weather Scorches: Delhi-NCR Temperature To Surpass 47 Degrees

Fireballs are raining from the sky in many states across the country, causing people to suffer from the heat. In Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, temperatures have soared close to 47 degrees Celsius, while residents of Delhi NCR are sweating profusely. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning about the extreme heat. Some states have already seen rain. When can people expect relief from the heat?

The IMD has issued a red alert for a heat wave on Sunday, with an 'Orange' alert in place from Monday to Wednesday. During this period, the maximum temperature in many states is expected to range between 44 and 47 degrees Celsius. In light of this, the IMD has advised people to stay indoors.

Delhi To Experience Severe Heat This Time

The capital and its surrounding areas are experiencing scorching heat and heat waves. On Friday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature exceeding 46 degrees Celsius, which is 4 degrees above normal. Mungeshpur was the hottest area with a maximum temperature of 46.8 degrees Celsius. Najafgarh recorded 46.7 degrees, Pitampura 46.1 degrees, and Pusa 46 degrees Celsius. In some areas, the temperature reached 45 degrees Celsius, with Ridge recording 45.5 degrees and Aya Nagar 45.2 degrees Celsius.

Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan were the hottest states in the country on Saturday. Kanpur in UP and Barmer in Rajasthan recorded maximum temperatures of 46.9 degrees Celsius. People in Punjab and Madhya Pradesh are also suffering from intense heat. In Ludhiana, Punjab, the maximum temperature reached 45.2 degrees Celsius, while in Glavier, MP, it was 45.0 degrees Celsius.

Madhya Pradesh experienced record-breaking heat, with Datia recording the highest maximum temperature of 47 degrees Celsius. Gwalior recorded 45 degrees, Khajuraho 44 degrees, Guna 43.8 degrees, and Ratlam 44 degrees Celsius.

A heatwave to severe heatwave is expected in many places in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi from May 19th to 21st. Western Uttar Pradesh is likely to experience heatwaves in some areas, while isolated places in Odisha may also be affected. The heatwave will continue in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand.
