On Saturday, Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) officially joined the DMK-led alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Additionally, MNM announced that it secured one seat for the 2025 Rajya Sabha elections. This move followed speculation about MNM's potential participation in the Parliamentary polls.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai after the announcement, Kamal Haasan emphasized that his party's decision to join the DMK-led alliance was driven by a commitment to the country rather than any personal ambitions. He clarified that MNM wouldn't be contesting in the Lok Sabha elections but would offer full support to the DMK-led alliance. Haasan stressed that the move wasn't about securing positions but about prioritizing the nation's interests and lending support where necessary.

As per the agreement reached between the two leaders, MNM will be responsible for campaign-related activities in the 39 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu and the lone segment in Puducherry. Meanwhile, sources within Stalin's party indicated that the DMK was expected to conclude their seat-sharing arrangement with the Congress by Saturday evening.

During the 2019 general elections, the DMK and the Congress had reached a similar seat-sharing agreement, which resulted in a sweeping victory for the ruling alliance in the state. Together, they secured 38 out of the 39 Lok Sabha seats. The Congress managed to win 8 out of the 9 seats it contested at that time.
