Karnataka: Child Dies After Mother Throws Him Into Waters Inhabited By Crocodiles

Despite search efforts, the child's body was found the next morning with severe injuries caused by a crocodile. The woman and her husband appeared in court and were remanded to 14-day custody.

Karnataka: Police in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada have arrested a 32-year-old woman on charges of murder after she allegedly threw her six-year-old son into a canal known to be frequented by crocodiles.

On Saturday night, the incident took place in Halamadi village. The woman, identified as Savitri, and her husband, Ravi Kumar (36), allegedly had frequent conflicts concerning their son Vinod's hearing and speech impairment.

After a heated argument, police claim that Savitri threw Vinod into the canal around 9 pm. Neighbors had alerted the police about the incident, prompting them to arrive at the scene with divers and locals. Due to the darkness, the police were unable to locate the child, and the body was recovered on Sunday morning.

This canal is linked to the crocodile-infested River Kali The search efforts by police and fire brigade divers were hindered by darkness, and Vinod's body could not be found on Saturday night.

On Sunday morning, the search team recovered the child's body from the jaws of a crocodile, which had partially consumed his right hand. The body reportedly exhibited severe injuries and bite marks.

Savitri and Ravi Kumar, who are employed as a house help and a mason helper respectively, appeared in court and were remanded to 14-day judicial custody.
