In his latest orders considering the upcoming Kanwar Yatra, the chief minister of UP, Yogi Adityanath has directed all the food shops and stalls to put nameplates. As per the advisory, this decision has been taken to maintain the purity of the faith of Kanwar pilgrims (yatris). The CMO notice further states that action will be taken against all those shops, restaurants, and outlets that are selling products with halal certification.

Notably, some of the most popular food franchises in the state, such as the likes of KFC, McDonald's, and Burger King use chicken cut by the process of halal. Boasting of using halal-certified meat, the outlets of these giant eateries also pin the certificates on their wall.

The method of cutting chicken has stirred controversy quite a few times before. The Internet has witnessed a handful of campaigns boycotting halal chicken for why the normal cutting process isn't followed and treated as 'haraam'. This time, the CMO itself has advised to put a full stop to this practice as it warns of the stern consequences. Does it mean shutting down these outlets in the entire state? Or will they abide by the rules and go for the alternatives? In that case, these food giants may see a face-off and backlash from those who have only halal meat on their preference list.

Putting nameplates on shops and stalls has already been into debate since its inception as it may create a situation of deprival for many fruit vendors and restaurant owners living in the areas of Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Bareilly, etc.

This is not the first time when Yogi Adityanath has made such decisions for Kanwar pilgrims. Earlier, he had 'utilized' his IPS officers to shower flowers on these devotees by helicopter. He has every time done his best to provide comfort and facilities to these devotees throughout their journey to Deoghar.
