Kolkata Airport: IndiGo Aircraft Hits Air India Express Plane, Pic Surfaces

Kolkata: In a shocking incident, the wingtip of a taxiing IndiGo aircraft grazed a Chennai-bound Air India Express on Kolkata Airport which was awaiting clearance  on Wednesday. The aircraft was sent back to the bay and an additional aircraft for the passengers were arranged by the IndiGo. An investigation in the matter was underway to unearth the reason behind the accident.

Air India Express released a statement explaining that one of their stationary aircraft, awaiting clearance to enter the runway at Kolkata for a scheduled operation to Chennai, was grazed by the wingtip of a taxiing aircraft belonging to another airline. The affected aircraft returned to the bay, and further investigation is underway, with coordination between the airline, regulator, and airport authorities. The airline apologized for any inconvenience caused to passengers due to these external circumstances.

IndiGo Airlines also issued a statement regarding the incident, stating that their flight 6E 6152 between Kolkata and Darbhanga was delayed as a result. A minor graze occurred between a taxiing IndiGo aircraft and another carrier at Kolkata Airport. Following protocol, the aircraft returned to the bay for inspection and necessary action. In response to the delay, refreshments were provided to passengers, and an alternate aircraft was arranged to minimize inconvenience. Emphasizing passenger safety as their top priority, IndiGo mentioned that an incident report would be submitted to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as per protocol. Subsequently, the DGCA removed the pilots of the IndiGo plane from the roster following the accident.
