Lok Sabha Polls 2024: UP Schools Offer Extra Marks And Pay To Boost Voting

Schools in Lucknow are introducing innovative rewards to encourage voting. On May 20, St Joseph's College will give 10 extra marks to students whose parents vote and an extra day's salary to staff who participate in the election.

Anil Agarwal, managing director of St Joseph's group of institutions, stated that the 10 extra marks could be allocated to a single subject or spread across different subjects. He explained that this decision aims to boost the voting percentage in the Lucknow Lok Sabha polls.

Lok Sabha Phase 5 Elections

The Lok Sabha election is nearing its final stages, with the fifth of seven voting phases scheduled for Monday. Voters cast their ballots in the first four rounds on April 19, April 26, May 7, and May 13, while they will vote in the final two phases on May 25 and June 1.

This phase involves the fewest constituencies, with voting taking place for only 49 seats across six states and two Union territories, and a total of 695 candidates participating.

Who will be the key candidates?

Focus will be on the Amethi and Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, both closely associated with the Congress party's Gandhi family. In 2019, Sonia Gandhi secured her fifth consecutive win from Rae Bareli, becoming her party's sole MP from the country's most populous state. Conversely, her son and then-Congress chief Rahul Gandhi lost to BJP's Smriti Irani.
