For the past few months, India has been eagerly anticipating one of its most significant political events, the Lok Sabha Elections, which occur every five years. During these elections, citizens exercise their right to vote and elect the central government for the next five years. The Lok Sabha Elections 2024 are underway in seven phases spanning two months. As of now, three phases have concluded, and the fourth phase is scheduled for May 13, 2024. Ahead of Phase 4 of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, several restrictions have been announced, including school holidays and traffic regulations. One of these restrictions is the declaration of a Dry Day in states holding elections. Here is a list of states where a Dry Day may be observed on May 13.

As previously mentioned, authorities have announced several restrictions in preparation for the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. One of these restrictions includes the implementation of a Dry Day, which is a common term for the prohibition of alcohol sales. During the fourth phase, voting will take place in 96 constituencies across nine states and one union territory. These regions are Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Jammu and Kashmir.

Here are the official announcements of Dry Days ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections

  • Andhra Pradesh: Authorities have closed government liquor outlets, bars, distilleries, depots, breweries, and toddy shops across Andhra Pradesh from 7:00 PM on May 11 until the completion of polling on May 13.
  • Jammu and Kashmir: A 'Dry Day' has been declared in Srinagar from 6:00 PM on May 11 to 6:00 PM on May 13. The order states that all liquor shops, bars, eating houses, etc., will be closed during this period, with no liquor served in hotels, clubs, or other establishments.
  • Telangana: A Dry Day has been declared in Cyberabad ahead of polling during the fourth phase of the General Elections. Alongside this, Section 144 has been imposed in the area to maintain law and order.
  • Maharashtra: A Dry Day has been announced in Pune for all areas where polling is scheduled. Liquor sales are prohibited from 6:00 PM on May 11 until 6:00 PM on May 13, which is polling day.

The Lok Sabha Elections 2024 are progressing through a total of seven phases. As of now, three phases have concluded: the first on April 19, the second on April 26, and the third on May 7. Phase 4 is scheduled for May 13, involving voting in 96 constituencies across 10 states. Phase 5 is set for May 20, with voting in eight states across 49 constituencies. On May 25, the sixth phase will occur, covering 57 constituencies in seven states, followed by the last phase on June 1, involving voting in 57 constituencies across eight states. The counting of votes and result declaration are scheduled for June 4, 2024.
