Madhya Pradesh's Replica Black Taj Mahal That Sparked Shah Jahan's Monumental Vision

Black Taj Mahal in Madhya Pradesh, often called the Fake Mahal. While the Taj Mahal, one of the world's wonders, is made of marble, the Black Mahal is constructed from black stone, domes of bricks, and plaster. Situated in Burhanpur city, this famous heritage site attracts foreign tourists from afar. Some are satisfied merely by glimpsing it from the gates.

This monument is located in the historic city of Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh. It is said that Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan decided to build the iconic monument in Agra after seeing this Black Mahal. Burhanpur remained under Mughal rule for many decades, with the Black Mahal as a prominent landmark. Besides the Black Taj, there are several other ancient buildings here that you can explore. This Taj Mahal is situated on the banks of the Tapti River. It is smaller than the original Taj Mahal in Agra.

In MP  Shahnavaz Khan's tomb is situated. Shahnavaz Khan was the eldest son of Abdul Rahim Khan Khana, but he passed away at the young age of 44. Following his death, he was buried along the banks of the Tapti River in Burhanpur. Shortly after, Shahnavaz Khan's wife also passed away, and her tomb was built adjacent to Shahnavaz Khan's. Subsequently, between 1622 and 1623 AD, the Black Taj Mahal was constructed.

Tourists from all over the world come to see this Black Mahal made of black stone. Its conservation is being undertaken by the Archaeological Department, and its minarets resemble those of the Taj Mahal. The only difference between them is that Agra's famous monument is built of marble, while this Black Mahal is constructed from black stone.
