Mamata Banerjee’s Surprise Visit

Earlier in the day, Mamata Banerjee made an unplanned visit to the doctors’ protest outside the health department office. The doctors have been asking for better hospital security and the removal of certain officials involved in the case. The Chief Minister promised to review their demands and said this was her "last attempt" to settle the issue.

Meeting Canceled Over Livestream Request

Although the doctors were invited to her house for a 6 pm meeting, it couldn’t happen because they wanted it livestreamed, and their videographer was not allowed to enter.

CM Asks Doctors to End Protest

Mamata Banerjee, addressing the doctors at the protest, asked them to stop the strike and return to work. She said she was speaking to them as their "didi" (elder sister), not just as Chief Minister. She also mentioned how worried she was and hadn’t slept for 34 days because of their protest.

Previous Meeting Attempts Failed

On Thursday, a meeting between the doctors and the Chief Minister also didn’t happen because the government refused to allow it to be livestreamed. Mamata Banerjee had waited for two hours but said she would be willing to "give up her position" to resolve the situation.
