Modi 3.0 Cabinet Meeting: After being sworn in as Prime Minister for the third time on Sunday, Narendra Modi held the first meeting with his new cabinet on Monday. In this initial meeting of his third term, the central government announced plans to assist in building 3 crore houses in rural and urban areas under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Ministries may also be allocated to the new cabinet members during this period. Nitin Gadkari is expected to continue leading the Ministry of Road Transport, a position he previously held. Ajay Tamta and Harsh Malhotra might be appointed as Ministers of State for Road Transport, while S. Jaishankar is likely to remain Minister of External Affairs.

Increase in Eligible Families

The Government of India introduced this scheme in 2015-16 to support eligible urban and rural families in building homes with basic amenities. Over the past decade, 4.21 crore houses have been built for eligible poor families under this scheme. In today’s crucial first cabinet meeting, it was decided to extend the scheme further.

In Modi’s new cabinet’s first meeting, it was determined that the increase in the number of eligible families has led to greater housing needs. To address this, an additional 3 crore rural and urban families will receive assistance for house construction. These houses will come with essential amenities such as LPG, electricity, and water connections.

Oath Ceremony on Sunday

Notably, Narendra Modi and his cabinet members took their oaths on Sunday. In the past two elections, the BJP secured a majority to form the government, but this time it did not achieve a majority. Modi's current cabinet includes 30 Cabinet Ministers, 5 Ministers of State with Independent Charge, and 36 Ministers of State.
